Star Wars Half Weekend Highlights Day 1 & 2

Finally back from California and have some time to write. I’ve been super busy at work and for some reason the 2 hour time difference really hit me hard.

A couple highlights from my trip:

Wednesday: Super early flight. American Airlines cancelled my original flight, then changed the time of my next flight. 5:45 am flights are early morning wake ups. I had a layover in Dallas, then it was off to Santa Anna airport.

While waiting for my friend that I was staying with to get off work, I headed over to Huntington Beach. IMG_5300[1]Such a gorgeous sunny day. Thankfully this nice weather stayed the whole trip. Grabbed a sandwich and sat on the beach and relaxed.

Thursday I headed to the expo first thing to pick up my bib and race merchandise. I arrived about an hour before it opened and there were already many people lined up. The lines moved pretty quickly and I picked up a few things and walked around the expo.

Just a few people waiting for merchandise.

Oh, the things I con my mother into doing. ;)

Oh, the things I con my mother into doing. 😉

IMG_5316[1]After the expo I headed up to Los Angeles to check out a few sites. I’ve never been there before and wanted to do the touristy stuff. Parked at Hollywood and Highland and head to the Grauman’s Chinese Theatre.

IMG_5332[1]I’m not sure what I was expecting this area to be like, but it was very cheesy. The people dressed like costumed players were getting a little to close to me for my liking, one even sneaking up behind me and making me scream. I looked around at the various handprints and walk down the street looking at all the stars.

IMG_5330[1]IMG_5335[1]After walking around for awhile it was time for ice cream!! Ghirardelli Soda Fountain  Pictured is the Gold crea, chocolate, peanut butter, whipped cream  Worth every calorie!

IMG_5343[1]Next I headed back into the Hollywood and Highland to get a glimpse of the Hollywood sign.

IMG_5349[1]Walked around into the shops, and did the smartest thing ever..left around 4:30-5pm….prime rush hour traffic.  One thing i now know is, I would never want to live in that area and commute to/from LA! =)

After I got back, I grabbed some dinner at Downtown Disney and headed to bed.  Disneyland and California Adventure’s were calling my name in the morning!

Week reviewed and Spartan Race entry winner!

First things first. Thank you everyone for entering the contest to win a Spartan race entry. The randomly chosen winner was comment #14.

spartangiveawaywinnerThis was 13Point1 (@Running13Point1)  Congratulations!  I contacted you on Twitter since the email address connected wasn’t valid. Please respond with 48 hours or I will need to pick a new winner. Thanks!

Last week, I was so busy running errands and getting everything I needed to leave for Calfironia this week. My workouts were not so great. I need to stick to my schedule when I get back to California. Snow and freezing cold temperatures make me want to just curl up with a good book and hot cup of coffee.

I did get in a 3 mile run on Wednesday and a 6 on Sunday.

My 6 on Sunday I did a test run for Star Wars.  Any idea who I am doing a mock up costume for? The good news is, it withstood my 6 miles so we have a winner!

prinessleiahairAnyone else running Star Wars half marathon or 10 K?

Week in Review

Wow, January is starting off fast and busy. I’m finally back into the swing of things and back on track. I’m trying to get in 3 runs a week, 2 shorter and one longer. I also started tracking my food. For some reason taking a few extra cookies doesn’t seem like such a great idea when you write it down. 😉

Next week I leave this lovely cold, snowy state for California!  Super excited for my first trip out to Disneyland since I was 8. Also can’t wait for my first race of the year, the Star Wars Half Marathon. Anyone have recommendations on places to see and eat outside of the Disney area?

Week in review:

Monday: cross training workouts at home

Tuesday: rest

Wednesday: 3 mile run

Thursday: cross training workouts at home

Friday: 4 mile run

Saturday: cross training workouts at home

Sunday: 12 miles.  The roads were snowy and icy. I can’t risk an injury so I did this indoors on a track. Felt like the longest 12 miles I’ve ever done!

Reminder, my Spartan race giveaway closes on Sunday! Go here to enter!

Challenge yourself and test your limits in 2015!

That’s a wrap on 2014, and 2015 goals!

I hope everyone has a fun, safe New Year’s Eve! As I type this, I sit and drink my Bailey’s…because I’m have a wild night tonight! 😉 I worked today, got out early at 2, and had to get one last 3 mile run in to finish off the year!

baileys2014 was a great year. Sure, I had my low points, but I’ve definitely had rougher years.

In December 2013, I relocated back to IL after being gone for 10 years. Illinois welcomed me back with open arms, with one of its coldest winters ever, and lots of snow! That part, I don’t appreciate. 😉

Some highlights of my year included, running a marathon, starting a new job, and meeting new people.

As far as running, my year consisted of the following:

February I ran the Glass Slipper Challenge, I got a new PR surprisingly on my half and had a wonderful time!

April I won an entry into a local 10K race, did a local 5K, and ran the Nike Women’s Half in DC. Loved that race, and got another half PR! Sad to see I won’t get to do that one next year.

May I did another 10K which included a huge shocker of a hill for me. That PR stands, but hoping to change that next year!

August I started marathon training and ran 2 halves. One being another PR for the year. The other being what felt like the hottest and most humid race ever.

September I was at the peak of marathon season, ran a half, and finally pulled off an under 2 hour half, even with a train blocking the course!

October. I RAN A MARATHON! That’s about the only words I have to say for October.

November I won another entry into a local 5K and after not being able to run since the marathon due to being sick, I got my under 25 minute 5K! 24:59,but it counts! I also ran the Hot Chocolate race, and got a delicious candy bar medal! Also did a 5K Turkey Trot.

Overall, I feel very accomplished with all of this.

3 5Ks (one first in age group, new PR), 3 10Ks (new PR), 1 15K (new PR), 5 half marathons (new PR), 1 marathon

Total racing and training miles = 798.82

In 2014 I made 3 running goals, and I want to make 3 for next year.

1. Under 55 minutes 10K

2. Run 900 miles.

3. Still deciding on this one. I’m thinking about the idea of 2 marathons, but that depends on a couple factors. Hope to have a 3rd out here soon.

I hope everyone had a wonderful, successful 2014, and that 2015 brings you much joy! Thanks for reading my blog and following me in my journey!

What are your goals for 2015?

Happy Holidays!

I know I am a few days late, but hope everyone had a Merry Christmas! Mine was fairly low key this year, but I enjoyed it. I ended the day with a lovely 3 mile run. Loving the milder winter we are having here this year in Chicago. Hope we can make it through the next few months with the same type of weather.

I got a few running related gifts for Christmas. On Christmas Eve my brother surprised me with the book I forgot I wanted…

I love reading The Oatmeal online and this book is perfect!

My mom got me an ornament and also a Chicago Marathon running charms. I’ve never been big into the running charms, but like this one to remember my first marathon.

Christmas Eve I went out to a nice dinner with my family.  I love to get all dressed up,even if my curly hair lasts a minimal amount of time. 😉

curlyhairMy running really slacked last week. I did my 3 miler on Christmas Day and was suppose to do 12 today. My 12 turned into 6. Lately any mileage over 6 has led me to some knee/it band pain.  It’s really frustrating me. I figured I shouldn’t push it and will get one 12 miler in before my next half next month.

Anyone have any big plans for New Years Eve? I’m usually a pretty low key New Years person myself. I’ll enjoy the next day off work! =)

Cookies, Candy, and some Running

December seems to be just flying by this year. Work is busy as always, and I’ve been so tired after getting home. I can’t wait till it starts staying lighter out longer. I’ve had to resort to the indoor track for my runs, and it gets so boring.  I have the RunDisney Star Wars Half coming up next month, so now is not the time to lose motivation.

Week in review:

Monday: cross training workouts at home
Tuesday: cross training sheets
Wednesday: 3 miles at the indoor track
Thursday: cross training sheets
Friday: Had my work Christmas party, so went to that after work, then came home and crashed
Saturday: Baked some cookies and started on my chocolate candies, also did some shopping

toffee bars

Sunday: Woke up super early and finished my other 2 batches of cookies and chocolate. Then, ran 10 miles. That’s the furthest I have run since the Chicago Marathon. Wow, I could feel it in my legs and my IT band was angry! I definitely need to get back into my stretching and rolling routine I was in when I was marathon training.
